For the Love of ... Cabbage

Green vegetables are NOT a favorite for a lot of people. Usually, people avoid it like they avoid a pothole in the road.

But we all know there is a lot of health benefits to eating green vegetables. Let's start with one of the most underrated veggies out there (in my opinion); cabbage.

First of all, a lot of people are familiar with the green cabbage in the produce section, but don't be afraid to try some of the other colors out there too. Red, purple and white cabbage is also available in many regions. But, if you don't want to be adventurous just yet (hey, you're just trying cabbage for the first time. Baby steps, I get it). Cabbage also provides a lot of minerals and vitamins, such as vitamin K, vitamin C, vitamin B, calcium, fiber and a low calorie option.

But what's the best way to cook cabbage you may ask?

Steamed.

(Sounds like a bad pun doesn't it?)

By steaming it, you retain the nutrients in the cabbage. You want it to still be green and fresh. But because cabbage can be bland, the key is to flavor and season it well. Salt and pepper of course work, but garlic, ginger, onions, and meat work too. Often people include bacon or neckbones or turkey to add some flavor to it. Flavor enhancements work with making sure that your cabbage isn't bland or boring. But another way to incorporate cabbage is into your vegetable dishes or stuffing (or rolling) the cabbage with something inside (usually beef, but be creative with your stuffing if you go this route). Don't worry; I'm here to help you.

So, for the love of cabbage, let's get to rolling (another bad pun).
