Pass the lemonade please.
Nah, there is more you can do with lemons than just fresh squeezed lemonade.
Many people don't consider lemons to be a fruit, but they do have seeds, so there are categorized as a lemon. All people know about lemons is that they are tart and bitter and acid, which sometimes turns people off to their flavor.
But, there are some benefits to using the acid in the lemon. You can use it as a replacement to adding salt to your dish to bring out the flavor in a fresh, light way without adding sodium to your dish. It is especially a great flavor to add to poultry and seafood dishes; the acidity brings out the natural flavor of the dishes, especially in fried dishes (think fried shrimp or calamari).
It also can be used as a marinade ingredient. A squeeze of lemon in sauces or vegetables can increase a lot of flavor. Sliced lemons on top of a piece of salmon (try layering lemon slices under the fish on the grill for great flavor).
You can even add it to your desserts. Lemon tarts are very popular, but often, a lot of fancy dessert dishes include lemon zest in the dish. It adds a bright of color and a slight pop of flavor to the dish.
So for the love of lemons, let's get a punch of flavor here!
