We About The Love of ... Pork

Updated: Jun 26, 2020

Can you hear the sizzle of the bacon in the pan? Can you smell it? Doesn't it smell like Saturday mornings at your grandparents' farm in the countryside during the summer break?

Too much? Okay, but think about it, you want some bacon now. That's usually what most people think about when they hear the word "pork" along with pork chops. And doesn't that sound delicious?

Now, pork often times is linked with a high level of sodium. And yes, cured pork products tend to have a higher salt content. Pork also has a varying range of fat content, which can be useful when cooking and adding flavor and taste to certain dishes. But pork does not totally deserve the negative reputation that it has gotten over the years.

For one thing, lean pork is a great source of protein. Often times, it is used to help build good quality muscle because of the amount of protein. While considered a "red meat," I often think of it as a white meat. But, because it is a red meat, that does mean that consumption must be paid care attention to.

Pork is also a good, quick and easy protein to cook. Like other protein sources, it can be cooked and served a variety of ways. Just be careful not to eat too much; although a good protein source, the salt and fat content can actually negate the health benefits.

For me personally, I don't eat a lot of pork often, but when I do, it is delicious. Pork chops are my favorite way to eat pork. But a side of bacon every once in a while doesn't hurt either.

We about the love of pork, so get that bacon sizzling in the pan.
