Did your mother ever ask you to take the chicken out the freezer or refrigerator to defrost for dinner that night? Mine did. And most times, I accomplished the mission. But there were those days that I realized I forgot to do it (when I heard her car pull into the driveway at night).
Now, as an adult, I completely understand the struggle; there is no worse feeling in the world than coming home after a long, hard day and discover that there is nothing ready for you - just ingredients. This is why meal-prepping is so crucial; it can help to alleviate the guesswork in preparing dinner.
But we live in the real world, so can we be honest? Sometimes, you have those days where you don't have anything ready, or you may want something different from what you have prepared. But the conflict comes into play; eat what's here, even if I don't want it, order something, or stand on my feet and try to cook something?
Don't worry; there are options that can help you get around these options. There are lots of meals that you can make that are fast and easy, and you can customize some of the dishes based on ingredients, preferences, flavors, etc.
What are some of these quick and easy meals I'm talking about?:
Stir-Fry
Lo Mein
Sheet Pan Dinners
Pasta Dishes
Tacos
Miniature Versions of Larger Meals (like mini-meatloaves or mini-pizzas)
There are so many different things that you can make. But another thing to keep in mind is how you define "quick and easy" for your situation. Does that mean using less ingredients, or using less pots and pans, or how fast you can get something on the table? Be sure you are clear on that before you start, because that can make a difference in how you approach the meal.
We about the love of quick and easy meals, so let's get something together and feed the family before midnight!
