We About The Love of ... Ground Beef

Unless you have been a vegan/vegetarian since birth (it actually is possible to raise a baby as one), you've probably had a hamburger or a cheeseburger at some point in your life.

And chances are, you've been told that hamburgers are bad for your health

Yes and no.

Like many things, it's not the burger itself, but often the way it is cooked and all of the extra toppings and ingredients that have gone into the burger (like the six strips of bacon).

In all reality, ground beef is not a bad choice to include in your diet, in moderation.

Ground beef is a popular protein choice and an easy one to cook. You can even cook it to your desired doneness (although, I would recommend that you at least cook your beef at medium to medium well to balance both flavor and to ensure that it's properly cooked for health reasons). In a 3-ounce serving of ground beef, there is roughly 218 calories, no carbs and about 24 grams of protein. WIth no carbs in the food, often times, it is paired with some type of carb, such as rice or potatoes.

So then, that should mean we can eat all the ground beef and cheeseburgers we want, right? Alas, not the exact truth. See, one thing that ground beef has a high content of is fat, which is why turkey burgers began to become a popular alternative for those avoiding fat content. A lot of the flavor in beef comes from its high-fat content, but too much of that fat in a diet can lead to serious heart conditions and complications.

Does that mean we need to put the hamburger back in the freezer? Maybe just some of it. One way to reduce the amount of saturated fat you consume from ground beef is to look at the fat/lean beef content on the package. Many people are leaning towards selecting those options with a higher lean beef content and a lower fat content. This allows for the flavor, but eliminates and reduces the amount of saturated consumed.

But, of course, there is more than one way to use ground beef. If you aren't the fan of a classic hamburger (I mean, I don't understand why not, but...), you can make meatloaf, you can include it in pasta dishes or make a chili, stir-fry it with your favorite vegetables...there are plenty of ideas out there for you to try with your ground beef

We about the love of ground beef ... now is the time to get to the grind and get cooking!
